Using AWS to manage authentication communications

Follow the directions to setup SNS and Pinpoint, which is used to configure phone number from which MFA notifications are sent.

Create an associated role if necessary.

Set up SMS Messaging and Pinpoint

Go to the Pinpoint service and create a project (in the example cognito-users); any name will do

Under project features click SMS and voice

In Advanced configurations click Request phone number (unless you already have one)

Click Toll-free, SMS and Promotional

If you are creating a NEW Toll-free number you must register your toll free number according to new FTC regulations.
